Training for people with disability begins

Proper training, positive social attitude and good environment can offer the people with disability a life full of dignity, rights and freedom, speakers said at an inaugural ceremony of a training programme for the physically challenged graduates yesterday.

They said wrong perceptions of the employers, lack of confidence in people with disability and psychological weakness of the physically challenged people are responsible for their unemployment in higher positions.

ActionAid Bangladesh, in association with HSBC Bank and Chittagong-based development organisation IPSA, launched a project to train the university graduate disabled persons. Its inaugural programme was held at National Disabled Forum's auditorium in the city.

The training will focus on communication skills, technology, language, information and living a self-reliant life.

Impact Foundation Director Mansur Ahmed Chowdhury inaugurated the programme, while Sayema Chowdhury of ActionAid presented the objectives and future plans of the project.

ActionAid Country Director Shoyeb Siddique, its Human Resource Chief Parvin S Huda, National Disability Forum President Khandaker Zahurul Alam and Director Dr Nasifur Rahman, National Disability Sports Association Executive Director MA Baten, IPSA Chief Executive Arifur Rahman Khan and chief of the training Vaskar Bhattyacharya spoke at the inaugural session moderated by TIM Zahid Hossain of ActionAid.
