4th Children's Art Biennale '06
Paintings by children from around the globe


The paintings and drawings at the 4th Children's Art Biennale 2006 at the Shishu Academy reflected skill, imagination and devotion. Despite their young age the artists from 32 countries have done remarkably well.

The Grand Prize was won by Md. Nazmuz Sakib Priyo and it presented a storm in the village. The people and animals appeared distressed and helpless. The gold medal in Group A was taken by Farhan Hasin, aged four, of Bangladesh. On a background of green, vermilion and yellow, it brought a vast dimension of children at play.

Silver medals of Group A were won by three contestants including Poommipat Meeyoo of Thailand (aged 3). Poommipat's work had five children standing under an umbrella during a rainfall. Sachinthaka Kavindu Viduranga Hathanrsinghe's black elephants and their young ones in the jungle was the other winner. Sachinthaka's work brought in delightful reflection of the animal world. Asma Shwteg of Egypt (aged 5) with her work in shades of pink and blue, which brought in people trees and houses was the other winner in this group.

From UAE, Maitha Mohammed Al-Nuaimi (aged 7) won the gold medal in Group B with the depiction of children playing in the garden with their mother. Silver medals were won by Loh Swaney of China (aged 7), Loginov Vitaliy of Russia and Fahmidur Rahman (aged 7) of Bangladesh. Loh had brought in children and toys with neat lines, Loginov showed a scene from a farmer's home, where the man is sitting, waiting for the meal which his wife is bringing in. Fahmidur's work was a depiction of the countryside -- complete with boats in sail, haystacks, a baul, women working on a nakshi kantha, and boy flying a kite.

A young warrior with bow, arrow and a magic carpet at the back was the subject of the work by Boikov Vladimir (aged 9) of Russia. This won the gold medal in Group C. silver medals in this section had been bagged by Md. Imrul Bahar (aged 8) of Bangladesh, Alia Salah Salim Al Rashdi (aged 8) of UAE and Galib Mabashir (aged 8) of Bangladesh. Imrul's work showed football players with their fans looking on. Alia depicted a family at the zoo. Galib's was also a representation of everyday life.

Green hills, birds the rising sun and people dancing were the subject of Thakshila Dilhani (aged 10) of Sri Lanka who won the gold Medal in Group D. Sultana Ishtiaq (aged 12) of Bangladesh, Asma Binta Jalal (aged 11) of Bangladesh and Ravindu Sanjula Yapa Dahanayke (aged 11) got the silver medals of Group D. Sultan had depicted a musical performance in the village. Ravindu showed traditional dancers of Sri Lanka, atop crimson clad elephants.
