Factional Clash
Sylhet BNP MP gets 'threat' over phone
Staff Correspondent, Sylhet
Ruling party lawmaker Syed Mokbul Hossain claimed that he has received several threats over mobile phones in the last two days following the death of a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) man in Golapganj upazila."There may be an attack on me any time," Mokbul said at a press conference at the Sylhet Press Club yesterday afternoon. He alleged that the activities of Privatisation Commission Chairman Enam Ahmed Chowdhury have badly hit the BNP's image in Golapganj-Beanibazar constituency. "Enam Chowdhury has been creating obstacles to my programmes," Mokbul alleged, adding that he has no authority to interfere in party activities or in development activities since he holds the position of the Privatisation Commission chairman. Mokbul said as an MP he manoeuvred the development project of the Golapganj upazila health complex and that he was supposed to lay its foundation stone. "But Enam Chowdhury managed to do it by force and I only went to make a protest," he said. Mokbul alleged the ruling BNP's central leadership for allowing both Enam and himself to stay in the field, creating chaos at field level. Privatisation Commission Chairman Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, who enjoys the status of a state minister, has been in Finance Minister Saifur Rahman's camp since the issue of rivalry in Sylhet BNP went open a few months ago. Syed Mokbul Hossain was elected as an independent candidate in 2001 and joined the ruling party in 2003. He extended support to ruling party lawmaker M Ilyas Ali in July last year when Ilyas took position against Saifur.
