No severe floods this month

The country may experience no severe floods or natural calamities this month, as no such indication was traced in the information received by Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) through various sources as of yesterday.Officials of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) told this to State Minister for Water Resources Advocate Goutam Chakraborti who visited the FFWC yesterday to monitor its activities. The centre has been continuously collecting and analysing information on flood and disseminating those since its establishment on April 1 this year and will continue its activities till October 15 this year, BWDB source said. Water resources secretary Syed Mohammad Zobayer, former secretary Saif Uddin Ahmed and Director General of BWDB Sharif Rafiqul Islam were also present. The minister was briefed on the activities of the centre, which provides flood-related information after analysing pictures received through satellite and all information received from every corner of the world through e-mail and web site.
