The drive was initiated following the tragic train-bus collision that left 36 bus passengers dead and 44 other injured on July 11 at Akkelpur level crossing.

BR sources said a special team of GRP from Santahar Police Station, led by its officer-in-charge Shajedur Rahman, conducted a daylong raid with the help of Joypurhat Sadar Police.

The illegal shops were demolished with a view to making the railway track safer. The traders were engaged in fruit selling for years together at the level crossing making the track highly risky.

OC Shajedur Rahman told BSS that similar drives will be conducted to demolish all such illegal structures very soon to make railway traffic safer.
