Over 2 lakh tonnes of spicy crops in Rangpur

More than two lakh tonnes of various spicy crops are expected to be produced in eight districts under Rangpur Agriculture Zone (RAZ) this year as the department concerned have taken special measures.Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the steps include motivational activities for the farmers and rural people, supply of high yielding varieties of seeds and extending all-out technical assistance to the growers under different programmes, particularly initiated by the North-west Crop Diversification Project (NCDP). The sources said a target of producing nearly one lakh tonnes of onion has been fixed from over 12,000 hectares during the Rabi and Kharip seasons while 76,834 tonnes of onion was produced from 9,545 hectares in 2005 and 56,166 tonnes from 11,300 hectares in 2004.
