Road accidents in Rangpur kill 7, injure 45


Seven people died and 45 others were injured in two road accidents at the same point on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway under Mithapukur upazila of the district early yesterday.

Of the dead, five were identified as Nuri Hujur, 45, Toyab, 27, Moklech, 28, Rafiqul, 32, and Ramzan, 35.Identity of the remaining two could not be known.

Police and locals said a Rangpur-bound bus collided with a stone-laden truck at Boiragiganj at around 5:00am, killing two bus passengers on the spot and injuring 20 others.

Soon after the accident, another Panchagarh-bound bus from Dhaka hit the accident-ridden vehicles, leaving 30 passengers of the bus injured. Of the injured, four died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital while another succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
