Dhaka, Navy go through


Dhaka DSA and Bangladesh Navy booked their places into the final round of the Jubok Phone 23rd National Football Championship as they became zonal champions beating their respective rivals at the different venues across the country yesterday.

Dhaka emerged as Padma zone champions, crushing Rajbari by 8-1 scoreline at Shariatpur Stadium while Bangladesh Navy handed a 3-1 defeat on Bangladesh Police at the Bangladesh Army Stadium to become Service zone champions.

In the day's other zonal semifinal matches, Khulna, Moulavibazar and Gazipur DSAs advanced to the zonal finals, beating their respective opponents at different venues.

The day was marked by four hattricks -- two from Opel and Apel of Rangpur and one each from Mohammad Mamun of Bandarban and Tutul of Bangladesh Army.

At the Shariatpur Stadium, Sajjad Hossain Babu and Malay struck twice for the Dhaka DSA while Mahbub Mostafa Angur, Mahbub Hossain Polo, Mahmudul Hasan and Shahjahan added one each in their 8-1 demolition of Rajbari.

Dilip Kumar Roy netted the consolation goal for Rajbari.

At the Dhaka Army Stadium, Kamaluddin scored two goals and Jahangir Alam netted one to help Navy earn a convincing victory. Ashim scored the lone goal for Bangladesh Police.

At the Tangail Stadium (Brahmaputra Zone), Gazipur moved into the zonal final with a 3-0 victory over Netrakona. Ashraful Quader Manju, Mohammad Golap Hossain and Narayan Pal shared the goals for the winners.

At the Habiganj Stadium (Surma Zone), Moulavibazar edged past Narasingdi 4-3 in tiebreaker after the stipulated time ended goalless.

At the Pirojpur Stadium (Meghna Zone), Khulna rode on Pranatosh's lone goal to beat Bagerhat for booking a place into the zonal semifinal.

At the Gaibandha Stadium (Tista venue), Rangpur outclassed Panchagarh 8-0 to reach the zonal semifinal.

At the Bandarban Stadium (Karnaphuli Zone), Bandarban overpowered Khagrachhari 7-0 to climb up to the zonal semifinal. Mohammad Mamun struck a hattrick for the winners.

At the Joypurhat Stadium (Zamuna Zone), Rajshahi stepped into the zonal semifinal beating Naogaon 7-6 goals in tiebreaker.

At the Dhaka Army Stadium, Bangladesh Army outplayed Bangladesh Air Force by 6-0 goals with Tutul scoring a hattrick for the winners.
