At least five tribal students were injured as two factions of Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCF) clashed at the Dhaka University Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) last night. Witnesses said the clash erupted at around 10:15pm when several Parbattya Chhattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS)-backed PCF members locked the collapsible gate of TSC, confining a few hundred of their rivals, who were holding concluding programmes of a three-day council in the auditorium. Some councillors, who were outside at that time, tried to unlock the gate, leading to the clash. Both the sides scuffled and threw brickbats at each other during the clash, leaving five injured. Dipankar Chakma, a member of United People Democratic Front (UPDF)-backed PCF, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with injuries. Following the clash, pro-UPDF students chased their rivals to Jagannath Hall. Hall sources said a tense situation was prevailing at the hall. Around 20 policemen have been deployed at the hall to avoid any untoward incident.
