Prisoner dies of AIDS


An undertrial prisoner of Dhaka Central Jail, who had been suffering from AIDS, died at Infectious Disease Hospital at Mohakhali yesterday.

Mainul Haq, son of Emran Ali, was arrested this year, the jail guards said but could not give the exact date of his arrest.

Mainul, who hailed from Borokpur in Jakiganj, Sylhet, was admitted to the hospital on August 1 after he fell sick.

Sub-Inspector Anisur Rahman of Gulshan Police Station prepared the inquest report in presence of Metropolitan Magistrate Masudul Haq, and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.

According to the inquest report, Mainul was a HIV-positive.

The morgue assistants, however, refused to perform autopsy on the body.
