Photography exhibition
The hidden worlds of urban children
Cultural Correspondent
A three-day digital photography exhibition was held at National Institute of Mass-Communication recently. A total of 40 photographs by 20 photographers were displayed at the exhibition. This exhibition, titled Nagar Sishu is an outcome of a course on digital photography attended by the photographers from different government organisations. The exhibition weaves together the lives and inner worlds of the city children with those of their family, friends and others. Children's basic curious nature, their humane aspects and sensibilities that are ignored too often are portrayed in some of the photographs. In a photograph by Hakikul Islam, a free spirited little girl views her image in a mirror while painting her face with lipstick, turning her back on the apparent unattractive reality. The photographs clearly show the difference among children highlighting their conditions in different social classes. In a photograph by Gazi Sarwar Hossain, a street child cries in despair while an adult sleeps away next to him. National Institute of Mass Communication regularly offers courses on photography, TV and film medium.
