Folk and Baul Song Festival '06 at National Museum

Palli Baul Samaj Unnayan Sangstha (PBSU) organised a cultural event and a discussion at the National Museum recently. The programme titled 'Folk and Baul Song Festival 2006' was divided in to two sessions. In the first session, noted folk song lyricist Wahidur Rahman was honoured followed by a short discussion.The guests were Dato Haji Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Bangladesh; Takashi Asai, first secretary, Embassy of Japan; politician Hasanul Huq Inu. Syed Margub Morshed presided over the programme. In the second session, the cultural event featured performances by noted and emering folk singers of the country. The show began with a performance by Kangalini Sufia. She rendered two of her widely popular numbers: Buri hoilam tor karoney and Konba pothey nitaigonj-e jai. Sufia's performance was followed by Baul Nayan. Nayan performed Maya lagaisey. Baul Latif, Baul Bilquis, Baul Brishti and others took the stage consecutively. All together 20 artists performed at the programme. The event wrapped up with the performance of Baul Babul Sarkar's Janitey chai doyal tomar ashol naam ki.
