Blackwell eyeing Champs Trophy

Ian Blackwell is hoping to prove his fitness with Somerset and play for England in October's Champions Trophy in India.

Blackwell, who injured his shoulder in May, is set to bat for the county in next week's game with Gloucestershire.

It could be another two weeks before he can bowl but he feels he can make the 14-man squad for India after being named in a provisional 30-man list.

"It is a case of keeping my fingers crossed," the 28-year-old slow left-arm bowler told the Western Daily Press.

"Jamie Dalrymple will probably go as one of the spinners and they will probably pick one other."

Blackwell spoke to chairman of selectors David Graveney three weeks ago, when he was planning a comeback to club cricket in his native Chesterfield.

"That was great news for him because he thought I was out for the season," said the Somerset skipper.

"He said, 'Don't rush back because we will name you in the 30 and we will take it from there'.

"I'm doing some bowling drills at the moment but I am only bowling from about 13 yards and not pushing the shoulder too much."

Blackwell, who played the most recent of his 34 one-dayers for England in India in April, is one of four spinners named in the 30.

Apart from Dalrymple, Ashley Giles -- also working his way back from a lengthy injury absence -- and Alex Loudon have also been included.
