6 die in road accidents


Six people, including a college teacher, were killed in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Magura, Sirajganj and Jessore yesterday.

Our Chittagong correspondent adds: One minor boy was killed in a road accident in the port city yesterday.

Victim Md Sowrav, 12, a tempo helper, was knocked by a covered van from the back at Kathgar area at around 4:00pm and received serious head injuries, sources said.

OUR CORRESPONDENT from Magura reports: A college teacher was killed in a road accident at Kechhuadubi area on Magura-Jessore highway in Magura Sadar upazila yesterday.

The dead was identified as Dipankar Kundu 28, a teacher of Tangakhali Banasri Rabindra Saroni College.

Our Correspondent from Sirajganj reports: A constable was killed and four other policemen were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Bogra highway at Dadpur under Solonga Police Station in Sirajganj yesterday.

The dead was identified as Prem Datta, 40, constable at Rajarbag Police lines in Dhaka.

The injured were rushed to Sadar hospital.

Police and witnesses said a Nilphamari-bound pick-up van with policemen from Rajarbag Police lines in Dhaka skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch when its driver lost control over the steering.

UNB from Jessore adds: Three people, including an Indian national, died and 20 others were injured when a Benapole bound bus from Dhaka skidded off the Jessore-Magura highway and fell into a ditch at Khajura in Bagerpara upazila yesterday.

The dead were identified as Muzaffar Belal, 40, a resident of 34 Ismail Road, Kolkata, Nimai Raj Bongshi, 75, of Noldanga, and Hiron Bala, 70, of Phulpur.

Survivors said the accident occurred as the driver pressed the brake hard to save a bicyclist on the road.

Of the injured, Kulsum, Mushtaque and Halim were admitted to Jessore General Hospital while others given first aid.
