The injured student was identified as Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, a third year student of political science department.

Sources said a group of ICS cadre knocked the door of Shahadat at Padma Cottage in front of Shah Amanat Hall on the campus at around 11:00pm and quizzed him about an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) who, as they claimed, was in the room.

At one stage of alteration they beat Shahadat with iron rods and hockey sticks, sources said.

He was rushed to University Medical Centre and later shifted to National Hospital in the city.

The incident has created resentment among the general students on the campus.

ICS CU unit President Mezbah Uddin Nayeem has however denied the allegation.
