PM celebrates 62nd birthday


People from all walks of life yesterday greeted Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on her 62nd birthday.

Thousands of leaders and workers of BNP and its front organisations, representatives of socio-political bodies, women, children and elderly people thronged into the Hare Road office of the Prime Minister in the afternoon, stood in a long queue and wished her a long and active life.

Many of them presented her with bouquets and flowers.

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Jamir Uddin Sircar, Ministers, Mayor of Dhaka City Sadeq Hossain Khoka and lawmakers were among those who greeted the PM with bouquets.

The PM stood for a long time before the queue and exchanged greetings with all. She sought 'doa' from the countrymen so that she can serve the nation.

Finance and Planning Minister M Saifur Rahman, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Moudud Ahmed and Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Harris Chowdhury, among others, were present on the occasion.

Earlier, on arrival at the office, Begum Zia was greeted by the officers of different wings of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) who presented her with bouquets.

They wished the PM a happy birthday and prayed to Almighty Allah so that she can contribute more to development and welfare of the country and her people.

The PM thanked all who greeted her on her birthday.

Meanwhile, our DU correspondent adds: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of ruling BNP, yesterday celebrated the 62nd birthday of the Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Modhur Canteen on Dhaka University (DU) campus.

The leaders and activists of JCD started to throng into the Modhur Canteen since morning.

The cake was cut at 12:00noon.

Former JCD president and BNP Student Affairs Secretary Fazlul Haq Milon was present at the function as the chief guest.

JCD President Azizul Bari Helal, General Secretary Shafiul Bari Babu, DU unit President Hasan Mamun and other leaders and activists were present.
