No class held at JU due to hartal
Execution of verdict in Bangabandhu murder case demanded

Academic and administrative activities at Jahangirnagar University (JU) came to a halt yesterday, as the half-day hartal, called by Awami League, passed off peacefully.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of JU brought out a silent procession on the campus to mark the 31st death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day. BCL activists, pro-AL teachers, officers and employees of the university took part in the procession. Later, they held a rally in front of the Arts faculty (old).

Addressing the rally, speakers demanded immediate execution of the verdict of Bangabandhu murder case. They also criticised the four-party ruling alliance for what they say a reign of misrule and corruption across the country.

Prof Sharif Enamul Kabir, president of Bangabandhu Parishad, JU, Sohel Parvez, president of JU BCL and Mahbub Naser Jony, general secretary of JU BCL, spoke at the rally.

Leaders of BCL and AL from different parts of the capital also visited the campus in motorcade.

Meanwhile, the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) celebrated the birthday of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia by cutting a cake at the cafeteria yesterday afternoon.
