The day's programme will begin through placing wreaths at a memorial plaque in front of the AL central office. Opposition leader and AL chief Sheikh Hasina, party leaders and leaders of the AL-led 14-party alliance will place wreaths at 11:00am.

Twenty-three people, including AL leader Ivy Rahman, were killed and over 400 others wounded in the barrage of grenade blasts at the AL's anti-terror rally attended by the entire leadership of the party.

To mark the day, the AL will organise road marches from different city points towards the party central office at 3:00pm.

The party leaders, workers and supporters will observe the two-minute silence on their way to the Bangabandhu Avenue at 5:22pm, the time of the first grenade blast.

Candles will be lit in front of the memorial plaque in the evening.

All units of the party will organise similar programmes across the country, said an AL press release.

AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil in a statement yesterday urged the party's different units to observe the anniversary.

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday staged demonstrations in the capital to protest the August 21 attack. CPB leaders and workers held a rally in front of the party central office where the speakers denounced the government for its failure to bring the culprits to justice.
