Arrest warrant against ex-director of City Bank

A Dhaka court yesterday issued an arrest warrant against an ex-director of City Bank Limited and three others in a graft case filed for misappropriation of Tk 1.1 crore.Judge Mohammad Momin Ullah of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order following a prayer by the investigation officer (IO) of the case. The accused are former director Zakaria Hossain Chowdhury, former senior vice-president of City Bank Limited AKM Nazrul Islam, former assistant vice-president of the same bank Abdul Malek and Hasan Faruque Khan. The case filed with the Motijheel Police Station alleged that Zakaria, also proprietor of Nurani Group of Industries, took a loan of Tk one 1 from the City Bank Limited in the name of a fake company AM Traders. Later, he with the connivance of others misappropriated all the money taken from the bank. An official of the defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption (Bac) filed a graft case against Zakaria and four others on June 2, 1999. The IO pressed charges against Zakaria and five others on March 15 this year. The IO also prayed for order of attachment of their moveable properties yesterday. Two accused Ahmed Fuad Chowdhury and Mohammad Shafiqul Alam are on bail and they were present in the court yesterday. Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Mahmud Hassan appeared for the state while Advocate Sayeed Ahmed Gazi defended the accused.
