PM tells rally of dev work

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday urged people to vote for the BNP-led alliance in the upcoming general elections to complete the development work initiated by her government."We will hand over power to caretaker government after two months and elections will be held in time. Take a correct decision and vote for the BNP-led coalition," she told a public meeting at Chhatak High School ground. Khaleda said the BNP is pursuing politics of development and welfare of the people while the Awami League (AL) is engaged in politics of chaos. In her 20-minute speech, the prime minister listed development works in different sectors, starting from infrastructure development to women education, saying that the government has worked for all. She said the government gave subsidy to agriculture sector and supplied fuel at lower prices despite price hike in the international market. The prime minister announced that if returned to power, her government would make female education free up to degree level. She said the Awami League, while in power, could not do any development and welfare work rather presented the people with "terrorism, corruption and anarchy". She said a group had recently resorted to terrorism by misinterpreting Islam, but the government had contained it, arresting many of them. "The remaining terrorists will also be arrested." Chaired by Chhatak BNP President Abdus Shahid, the meeting was also addressed by Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman, Communications Minister Nazmul Huda, Prime Minister's Political Secretary Harris Chowdhury, Privatisation Board Chairman Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, Whip Fazlul Huq Aspia, Kalimuddin Milan MP and Shahinur Pasha MP. Earlier, the prime minister laid the foundation stone of Chhatak Dowara Bazar Bridge over the Surma. The 402-meter bridge will be constructed in two years at an estimated cost of Tk 20 crore.
