Private security agencies demand removal of some clauses from PSSR
Staff Correspondent
Private security providers yesterday demanded removal of several clauses from the Private Security Service Rules (PSSR)-2006 with regard to the cancellation of registration, security deposit and renewal fees. They also demanded reconsideration of mandatory minimum wages and educational qualifications for security guards. They also urged the government to withdraw the provision of mandatory training for the security guards at the Ansar Academy. Bangladesh Professional Security Service Providers' Association (BPSSPA) and Metropolitan Security Service Owners' Association (MSSOA) jointly placed the demands at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity auditorium in the city. According to a recent government decision, the security service agencies will have to pay Tk 2 lakh in registration fee and and Tk 5 lakh in security deposit (refundable). They will also have to renew their licences every two years and the renewal fee is Tk 50,000. "There is no point in paying the additional registration fees and security deposit as we have already been paying 4.5 percent VAT and 37.5 percent corporate tax. In addition, 5 percent income tax at sources are also being deducted on assumption that the service providers are making a profit of 15 percent, which is also illogical," said Col. (Retd.) Azam of BPSSPA. Imposition of additional fees may force some companies to close down, the leaders said.
