15 hurt as JCD men clash with Shibir

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir activists of Khulna Medical College (KMC) locked in a clash on Saturday night, injuring 15 people.

Four of the critically injured, all JCD men, were admitted to the KMC hospital. They are president of KMC unit Shahinul Kabir Shahin, secretary Rubel, Debashish and Tareque.

According to police and eyewitnesses, an argument between JCD leader fourth year student Rubel and Shibir activist first year student Shibli Noman triggered the clash. The Shibir activist allegedly insulted Rubel, JCD's secretary of KMC unit and both locked into using abusive language towards each other in the dormitory dining area.

A group of JCD loyalist interns attacked Shibir activist Shibli Noman at around 9:30pm on the campus and soon after this, a large number of Shibir activists including non-students swooped on the JCD activists inside the dormitory.

Both Shibir and Chhatra Dal activists used sticks and brickbats during the violence that continued for over forty minutes, said the witnesses.
