Drive for drama in Rajshahi


A Natyo Abhijatra (drive for drama) began in Rajshahi theatre Padma Rangamancha recently. Eminent litterateur Proffessor Hasan Azizul Haque inaugurated the ceremony.

Some 14 theatre organisations in Rajshahi district and Rajshahi University (RU) staged plays. RU Anushilon Natyo Dal staged the opening drama Chena Ga'yer Kecchha. NMP joint conveynor Kamarullah Sarkar Kamal read out a written statement at the press conference held at Padma Rangamancha.

Dramatist and RU teacher Professor Moloy Bhoumik, joint convenor Mamun-ur Rashid, Udichi district unit general secretary Tajuddin Biplob, theatre activists Monwarul Islam Bakul, Imran Hossain, Mahmud Hossain, Selim Jahangir and Omar Sharif attended the programme.

The speakers observed that Rajshahi city was in dire need of a modern stage for theatre. They voiced a demand that the city corporation authority should initiate the construction of a modern stage.

They also demanded opening of the historic Town Hall for staging plays.
