AL expels two for attacking Tito

Two leaders of the Jessore district unit Awami League (AL) were expelled from the party following the attack on senior AL leader and ex-minister Khaledur Rahman Tito.They are Sharif Abdur Raqib, former general secretary of Jessore district unit AL and Kazi Nabil Ahmed, deputy secretary of the sub-committee of central AL. AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil signed the letter of expulsion on Sunday, following a high-level party meeting on Friday night, sources said. The party high command is also thinking of dissolving the committee of the Jessore AL, in which case Jessore municipal chairman Quamruzzaman Chunnu will be made the convenor. Following the attack on Tito, the party had earlier expelled 18 leaders and activists of the Jessore AL. Tito, who joined AL recently, was stabbed at Puratan Kashba in the Jessore town on the night of August 24. His followers accused Kazi Nabil Ahmed of the attack. A 6:00am to 2:00pm strike was also observed in the town on August 26 to protest against the attack on him.
