Situation still tense at Tinbigha Corridor
Our Correspondent, Rangpur
A tense situation was still prevailing at Tinbigha Corridor under Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat for the third consecutive day yesterday as the commander-level flag meeting between the BDR and the BSF failed to resolve the issue.Official sources and local public representatives said the situation grew tense after some Indian miscreants backed by BSF troops illegally entered Dahagram village in the early hours on Saturday and tried to take away cattle from the village. Later, the BSF reinforced their strength and obstructed the movement of Bangladeshis through the Tinbigha Corridor at 3:00pm on the same day, aggravating the situation. A commander-level flag meeting held from 3:15 to 4:15 pm on Sunday on the other side of the corridor failed to resolve the issue as the BSF did not agree to withdraw the blockade and the additional troops, sources said. Over 15,000 inhabitants of Dahagram-Angurpota led by Chairman of Dahagram UP Saiful Islam have started agitation for an indefinite period protesting the BSF activities. Meanwhile, Rangpur Sector Commander of BDR Colonel Lutfur Rahman sent a protest letter to the DIG of Jalpaiguri Sector of BSF RM Kadian yesterday asking him to comply with the international agreements with a view to maintaining peace, harmony and law and order along the border. He also asked the BSF to withdraw the blockade and additional force form Tinbigha Corridor and adjoining borders, sources said.
