Ctg bakery sealed off, owner jailed

A mobile court in an anti-adulteration drive here yesterday sealed an unauthorised bakery off and fined its owner and manager Tk 50000 each for producing and marketing confectionary items using adulterated and lower class raw materials. The owner Selim Molla was also awarded one-month rigorous imprisonment. The court led by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Magistrate Mohammad Munir Chowdhury found that M/S Tamanna Food Products at the city's West Madarbari was producing confectionery items in an unhygienic condition and with out the approval from the Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute (BSTI). The court seized 1.5 tonnes of adulterated and lower class biscuit, cake, glucose, palm oil and flour from the bakery. Manager Mohammad Tajul Islam, 24 and owner Selim Molla, 50 were fined Tk 50000 each while the owner was also sent to Jail in the afternoon. The bakery has been producing and marketing the items in different city areas posing serious threats to public health, sources said.
