Pires needs another six months

Villarreal midfielder Robert Pires is recovering after undergoing a knee operation in the southern French city of Marseille, his Spanish club announced Tuesday. Pires will remain in Marseille for around a month before returning to Villarreal near Valencia where he will then require several months of rehabilitation before training again. The 31-year-old France international suffered a rupture of the cruciate ligament in his knee on August 19. The operating doctor said that former Arsenal midfielder Pires would be out for around six months.
