Export licences of 4 shrimp factories cancelled

Export licences of four shrimp processing factories of Khulna have been temporarily cancelled due to the presence of a harmful chemical, Nitrofuran, in shrimps.The government on Sunday imposed the temporary ban on the basis of an allegation by the European Union (EU), according to the district Fish Quality Control Department. The department sources said the EU recently informed the government of the presence Nitrofuran in 22 consignments of 13 shrimp factories. After conducting necessary examination, the government has taken action against four factories -- Rupsha Fish and Allied Company, Lockpur Fish Processing Company Ltd, Jahanabad Fish, and National Sea Foods.
