21 eminent artists condemn police action on Noor

Twenty-one eminent artists have condemned police atrocities on Asaduzzaman Noor MP during Awami League-led 14-party opposition combine's programme of laying siege to Prime Minister's Office on September 12.

In a joint statement they expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and said the behaviour of police with the opposition activists and general people have reached an intolerable and inhuman level in the last couple of days.

They said people have lost their faith in government and its law enforcement agencies as they continued to show disregard for people's sentiment and protest against their inhuman behaviour.

The government did not take any action against those responsible for the atrocities, rather it had filed cases against the victims which is an example of barbarism and political bankruptcy, they observed.

The signatories to the statement are Qaium Chowdhury, Hashem Khan, Rafiqun Nabi, Khushi Kabir, Mustafa Monwar, Shishir Bhattacharya, Safiuddin Ahmed, Mohammad Kibria, Imdad Hossain, Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Abul Barak Alvi, Biren Shom, Farida Zaman, Dhali AL Mamun, Sheikh Afzal, Jamal Ahmed, Lalarukh Selim, Toufiqur Rahman, Moniruzzaman, Syedul Haq and Mohiuddin Shaker.
