RU teachers condemn Sept 12 police action in Dhaka

The Progressive Teacher's Society at Rajshahi University in a joint statement yesterday condemned the police action on leaders and activists of 14-party opposition alliance during its programme to besiege he Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Tuesday. They asked the government not to use law enforcers to suppress the opposition and cling to power. By doing so, the government has making police antagonistic to people. They said police clubbed Awami League lawmakers Mohammad Nasim and Asaduzzaman Noor, which is unprecedented. They demanded proper investigation into the police atrocities and exemplary punishment of those responsible for this. The RU teachers also strongly protested the arrest of Proshika (a non government organisation) officials and workers in different areas of the country and demanded their immediate release. The statement was singed by its convener Prof Abdus Shobhan and other teachers inlcuding Prof Muklasur Rahman, Prof Anando Kumar Shaha, Prof Moloy Kumar and Prof Hasibul Alam.
