Indian ministers warned for breaking heritage laws

Senior urban planning officials are among a dozen Indian ministers ordered to remove illegal changes made to their grand government residences built during the British Raj, reports said yesterday. The urban planning ministry has issued letters warning the ministers and some members of parliament "to preserve the authenticity of Lutyens' Delhi," said a government official, who asked not to be named. "These notices have been issued over a period of several weeks," he told AFP. British architect Sir Edward Lutyens designed the sprawling bungalows, set amidst acres of lawns and gardens, almost a century ago.
