Two bombs explode on DU campus

Tension ran high on Dhaka University (DU) campus as two bombs exploded with bangs at a place between the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) building and Modhur Canteen yesterday.

However, no casualties were reported.

The bomb blasted at about 11:10am just before Dhaka University Journalists' Association (Duja) was scheduled to stage a human chain demanding punishment to the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists who launched an attack on journalists on the campus recently.

A cook of the IBA canteen who witnessed the explosions said the bombs blasted one after another within seconds that made him deaf for several minutes. But he did not see who exploded them.

Previously a small bomb was exploded in front of Duja office at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on September 19 just before the beginning of a Duja procession, organised to mark the 21st founding anniversary of the association.

Later, Duja formed the human chain in front of Arts Building with the participation of all Duja members, students of Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and general students.

After the human chain, Duja held a rally where leaders blamed the university authorities for not taking actions against the responsible BCL men.

They also said repeated attacks on journalists have been taking place on the campus by BCL and other student fronts but no action has yet been taken.

Duja President Mustak Ahmed Masud, General Secretary Imamul Haq Shamim, Organising Secretary Mahbubul Alam, Office Secretary Riazul Islam and Executive Member Mokarram Hossain Shuvo spoke at the rally.
