Book on CMR launched
A book titled Corporate Moral Responsibility (CMR) was launched in the city on Friday. Authored by Mohiuddin Babar, the book casts various aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility and stresses that business should have a moral obligation to take care of different societal matters. With details on social responsibilities for the business, the book calls for following core ethical values by the business.

Among others, the launching ceremony was attended by French Ambassador in Bangladesh Jacques Costilhes, ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman, Director of IBA Dr Iftekhar Gani Chowdhury, academics, journalists and senior business executives.

Speaking on the occasion French Ambassador mentioned that corporate social responsibility can take a company to greater heights of success. Citing example of the biggest French investment in Bangladesh by Lafarge he mentioned that the Lafarge Surma Cement Limited has already undertaken a praiseworthy community development programme. He hoped that the new book on Corporate Moral Responsibility will help exciting many companies to undertake activities for benefit of the common people.

ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman mentioned that at present corporate social responsibility was abused by many as it is politicised and taken as mere philanthropy. He said business must not take up social responsibility programmes to meet pressure from the society but they should do those from their moral obligation. He stated that CSR is not well understood and business must be made aware in this regard. Incentives can also play a befitting role in this regard, he said and added that CSR Awards given in the country have begun to contribute a lot towards understanding the value of good citizenship.

Earlier, the book was unwrapped by Husne Ara Hanam, mother of the author.
