Alleged thief lynched in Bagerhat

An alleged thief was killed in a mob beating at Jharbunia Beel under Sadar upazila Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sekandar Ali, 35, son of Shaheb Ali of south Khanpur village of the upazila.

Police said locals caught Sekandar and gave him a good beating when he went to steal fish from a fish-enclosure, leaving him critically injured.

Sekandar later died on way to Sadar hospital. The body was sent to the morgue for autopsy.

However, Sekandar's family claimed that his rivals killed Sekandar following a previous enmity.
