Many parts of capital in darkness

A 210MW unit at Ghorashal Power Station tripped yesterday, leaving many areas in the capital without power even during Iftar.According to sources in PDB, the unit-6 at Ghorshal Station went off at 6:00am due a technical fault. A PDB official said the country's total generation output came down to below 3,000MW during the peak hours from over 3,100MW of the previous day due to the breakdown of the unit-6. The power supply situation had deteriorated in the second week of the current month following the breakdown of a generation unit at the 450 MW Meghnaghat plant and unit-2 at the 250 MW Barapukuria coal-fired plant. The situation slightly improved when the unit-2 at the Barapukuria plant resumed operation on Saturday. But the situation deteriorated further with the breakdown of the unit-6 at the Ghorashal Station. PDB officials said it might take 4 to 5 days to resume operation in the unit-6.
