The dead was identified as Mohammed Mainuddin, 32, a rickshawpuller hailed from Char Makhua of Noakhali district, and the injured were Mir Ahmed, 35 and Abu Taher, 30.

The accident occurred when the driver of a speeding truck lost control over steering and ran over four rickshaws at Choumuhuni Intersection under Doublemooring Police Station at around 11:00pm, sources said.

Mainuddin died on the spot while Ahmed and Taher received severe injuries. The injured were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Police detained the truck while its driver managed to flee. A case was filed with Doublemooring Police Station in this connection.
