Shahiduzzaman Selim on shooting overseas

Actor-turned-director Shahidu-zzaman Selim has produced well-appreciated mega serials Sporsher Bairey, Rangchhut, Agontuk, Gourochandrika and some single episode plays. Recently he went to US to shoot and act in two plays.

The plays directed by Selim - Dinner for Two and Shesh Din Porjonto -- follow the lives of expatriates in US. As an actor, Selim will be seen in plays directed by Nader Chowdhury - Antore written by Emdadul Haque Milon and Buker Ba Pashe by Mohon Khan.

Sharing his experience in US, Selim said, "TV serials are heading overseas frequently nowadays. In fact, today's audience is used to such geographical varieties as it is exposed to the global culture."

It's not just a foreign tag that drives him abroad. Selim hopes that shooting on eye-catching locations will break the monotony of sets. He said, "Though many plays were previously shot in overseas locations, the plays were technically poor and could not produce memorable works. In our plays we have worked with professionals".

He hopes that wonderful location as well as the sentiment of the Bangladeshi expatriates that has been portrayed will intrigue viewers. Members of the Bangladeshi community living in the US have acted in the plays and provided great support. "Shooting in the US requires more discipline and planning," says Selim.

On the story line of the plays directed by him, Selim asserted that in Dinner for Two, protagonist Hasan, an established businessman in his mid 40's, gets a call from his estranged wife, Apala. She is town on a business trip and decides to pay him a visit. Still not over her, Hasan arranges a special dinner. The complex nature of the relationship is unfolded through the play. Shahiduzzaman Selim, Salma Rosey, Mobin Rahman and Rokhsana Mirza have played the lead roles.

In Shesh Din Porjonto, a destitute woman in an abusive relationship with her husband, struggles to raise two children. Seeking no help from the outside world, she is determined to face her problems head on. Shahidu-zzaman Selim, Salma Rosey and Bobby Zaman have donned the major roles in the play.
