Spain will need 4m immigrants by 2020: Study

The Spanish labour market will need four million immigrants to fill demand by 2020 because the native population is aging and economic growth is expected to be strong, a Barcelona research institute said on Friday. The Institute of Economic Studies (IEA), an offshoot of the Catalan regional government in northeastern Spain, stressed "the need to integrate more migrant workers in the coming years" on the Spanish market. "By 2020, the Spanish labour market will need some four million new workers from the immigrant pool," the IEA said in a study entitled "Spain 2020, an inevitable cultural blending".
