Grand rally of non-govt pry teachers Nov 15

Teachers of non-government primary schools yesterday urged the government to meet their one-point demand for nationalisation of job before the end of its tenure.

The call was reiterated at a press conference organised by Bangladesh Non-government Primary Teachers' Association led by Mohammad Shamsul Alam in the city.

In a written statement, Shamsul Alam said the ruling BNP in its electoral manifesto in 2001 declared that it would nationalise the jobs of the non-government primary school teachers, but failed to take any decision in this regard although its five-year tenure is going to end soon.

He said the government's indifference to their demand would have negative impact in the upcoming general election.

The association has been agitating for nationalisation of job for the last 11 years, he added.

To press home its demand, the association announced fresh programme that includes teachers' grand rally at Paltan Maidan on November 15.

It has, however, postponed its October 10 programme in which a number of teachers were to commit suicide.

Association Secretary General Mrigendra Mohan Saha, Senior Vice-president Shahidul Islam Khan and Vice-president Swapan Kumar Roy were present on the occasion.
