Police and locals said the mishap occurred when the Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Chittagong skidded off the road and dashed a roadside tree at about 2:00am, leaving three passengers dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

Supervisor and helper of the ill-fated bus were among the deceased but their identities could not be known immediately.

The injured were admitted to different hospitals of the district.
