Matir ganey, praner taney
TV show highlighting Abbasuddin's songs

Artiste Nashid Kamal is once more on the go. This time with two new CDs and her upcoming Tara Bangla series called Matir ganey, praner taney. The programme, to be telecast from October 8 onwards, showcases 48 songs over a period of three months. It will be aired every Sunday at 8:00 am and rebroadcast next Thursdays at 8:30 pm.

The focus of the series is to give a glimpse of Nashid's legendary grandfather Abbasuddin Ahmed's life through his music be it Bhawaiya, Bhatiali, Bichhedi, Dehototto, Marfoti, Murshidi and Nazrul. It also includes two episodes of local songs of Sylhet and Chittagong.

So what sets the programme apart from others? In Nashid's words "The difference is that I will be the host as well as the performer. Abassuddin's songs have never been presented in this way complete with family history and the origins of his songs."

Among the songs that are to be presented on the show are Kone range baindhachho, O amar dorodi and Nodir kul nai. "The aim of the programme is to revive and popularise the folk music of Abbasuddin," asserts Nashid.
