Political leaders asked to mind their language

Two advisers of the caretaker government yesterday said that the political leaders should show a sense of responsibility while giving statements about the interim government, urging them to refrain from making any sweeping comments.

"Political leaders have lost patience and they are making comments without enquiring the matters properly," Akbar Ali Khan, adviser to the finance, planning, commerce and telecommunications ministries, told reporters when asked about former prime minister Khaleda Zia's allegation against the advisers of "hatching conspiracy."

Khaleda, also the BNP chairperson, in a public meeting on Tuesday accused the advisers of plotting when they held a meeting at a state-guest house in absence of the chief adviser, also the president.

"I am a citizen of Bangladesh. Is there no right for me to offer a lunch to my colleagues?" the former cabinet and finance secretary posed question.

"We are performing our duties as per the constitution and political leaders of all sides should have confidence in us," Akbar said adding that there should also be a mutual respect.

Meanwhile, Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, in-charge of the ministries of power, energy, communications and food, denied the BNP chairperson's allegations and urged the political leaders to make comments after looking into the matter thoroughly.
