'Rajshahi admin still biased towards 4-party'

Local 14-party combine leaders yesterday alleged that local administrations were reluctant to recover the huge amount of arms and arrest outsider Shibir cadres residing at Rajshahi University halls for subversive activities anytime.

They also blamed local administrations for playing partisan roles under the 'neutral' caretaker government and allowing four-party alliance leaders to use the government vehicles.

They threatened to lay a siege to RU and other government offices on November 12 if steps are not taken to disarm RU halls and ensure neutral role of the government servants.

The 14-party leaders brought out a procession in the city and held a rally at Shaheb Bazar Zero point yesterday protesting the government attitudes.

Workers' Party Politburo Member Fazle Hossain Badsha, city Awami League Secretary AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Secretary Abdullah Al Masud Shibli and Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Secretary Dr Syed Shafikul Alam addressed the rally.

They alleged that the four-party alliance used 15 vehicles of Rajshahi University and several trucks of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), rest houses and other government vehicles as 'political properties'.

They feared of major terrorist activities in the city by the armed Shibir cadres who, they alleged, were using Rajshahi University (RU) halls, different students' messes and RU vehicles for terrorism.

"We have specific information that Shibir cadres amassed huge arms at Nawab Abdul Latif, Amir Ali and Martyred Shamsuzzoha halls in RU", Liton said.

A Rajshahi City Corporation email note, however, denied the allegations of misuse of RCC vehicles for political purposes.
