Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad yesterday said he will take another 15 days for a fresh decision about joining any political alliance. The deposed dictator, who has recently changed his political stand several times, however, said the decision about joining any political alliance might also come in a day or two. He was talking to the newsmen at his Banani office before resuming the joint meeting of his party that was adjourned on Friday. "Jatiya Party will take the right decision considering the interest of the country and people," said HM Ershad who earlier in a dramatic turnabout from his previous announcement, decided not to join the BNP-led four-party alliance following strong opposition from the former lawmakers of his party. "We are ready to take part in the upcoming election individually," Ershad said, adding that they will also consider taking cooperation from any political alliance if needed. At the meeting, the party presidium members were in favour of taking part in the election individually while most of the party members, who voiced against joining the BNP-led four-party alliance, criticised the activities of the alliance during the last five years, sources said. Ershad's younger brother GM Quader, who is also a JP presidium member, was a conspicuous absentee at the meeting attended by party leaders.
