5 killed in Mymensingh road crashes


Five people were killed and some 45 others were injured in two separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway under Bhaluka and Trishal upazilas of Mymensingh yesterday.

In the first accident, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a pick-up van at Bhoraduba of Bhaluka at about 7:30am killing one on the spot and leaving around 30 others injured, police said. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The injured were rushed to different hospitals. Among them Latif Sikdar from Kushtia died at Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex while his son Jasim Sikdar and Shafikul Islam and Papon succumbed to their injuries at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) later.

The bodies are kept in the MMCH morgue for autopsy.

In another accident, 15 people were injured when a passenger bus tumbled into a roadside ditch at Ukilbari of Trishal upazila. Two critically injured were sent to MMCH.
