DCC lingers on action against Ibn Sina

The Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) has failed to take any action against Ibn Sina Trust, a leading healthcare provider, who chopped down over 150 krishnachura trees illegally five days into the offence.

The corporation has not been able to issue as much as a show cause letter to Ibn Sina during this time.

DCC officials said they might not be able to take any legal action against the plunder and can only cancel their contract with Ibn Sina under the beautification programme.

On November 7, Ibn Sina Trust chopped down the trees that are at least seven years each in the name of beautification amid protests from the locals and the Bangladesh Save the Environment Movement activists.

The DCC Chief Conservancy Officer and in-charge of Dhaka Beautification Programme Commander Sohel Faruque yesterday said that they could not issue the show cause notice because of the lengthy procedure but would send it soon.

"As per the contract we can only terminate the contract with Ibn Sina Trust but I believe they should strongly punished for the offence and I will talk to the DCC's legal department in this regard," Faruque said.

Following a report published in the Star City on November 8, Faruque had promised to recommend stern and immediate action against Ibn Sina.

When contacted the DCC Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka he said, he does not know anything about it and he would look into the matter on priority basis.
