BB alerts banks to rescheduling of bad loans

Bangladesh Bank (BB) yesterday asked all commercial banks to be aware about the irregularities in loan rescheduling by defaulters who are likely to contest the next parliamentary election.The central bank issued letters to the heads of all commercial banks warning that the management of the concerned bank will be held responsible if any such malpractice is found, BB sources said. Referring to the letter, a high official at BB said the letter advised the banks to strictly follow the existing rules set by the central bank for rescheduling any default loan. Sources said the BB has received a number of complaints that some powerful loan defaulters are trying to influence their concerned bank managements for rescheduling their default loans without complying with the central bank rules.
