Hedman joins Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Swedish goalkeeper Magnus Hedman, who will help plug the gap left by the injured Peter Cech.

Hedman, who has been on trial with the club, has signed a contract until the end of the season.

"He (Hedman) will double for Carlo Cudicini and Hilario until Petr Cech returns," the club said in a statement.

Chelsea goalkeper Cech is out for most of the season after suffering a fractured skull in a match last month against Reading.

During the same game at Reading, Chelsea reserve keeper Cudicini suffered concussion following a challenge at a corner.

Cech and Cudicini's injuries led to an unexpected call-up for third-choice keeper Hilario, however Mourinho is keen to have more back-up for the injured Czech international Cech.
