"...The capsule lift started to malfunction and it kept going up and down..."-- Aupee Karim
Aupee Karim is a multi-dimensional talent -- a successful actress, anchor, model and dancer. As if conquering the world of media was not enough, she is also a graduate from BUET and is currently teaching architecture at the Shanta Mariam Institute of Creative Technology. Excerpts from a one-on-one conversation with Aupee:

Are your students in awe of you?
Well initially they were and I was more like the actress Aupee Karim, but now since it's been over a year I am "Aupee ma'am", just like any other faculty member.
What is the wildest thing you have ever done?
Do I look like a wild person to you? However, I can say I did something very adventurous this Eid. I took my students to Saint Martin's without a guardian accompanying us.
What is your favourite food?
I love brinjal curry cooked by my mother.
A compliment that has touched you the rmost...
Someone called me up once and said that my smile can bridge the gulf between Hasina and Khaleda.
Any embarrassing incident that still makes you blush?
I went to Chittagong to inaugurate a shop. However before I could cut the ribbon there were thousands of fans crushing me. The shop owners were concerned for my safety and told me to leave. I had to elbow my way through the crowd. But there was no place to go, so I somehow managed to get into a shopping complex and immediately got on its capsule lift. Believe it or not, the capsule lift started to malfunction and it kept going up and down. All my fans out there were waving at me. It was so embarrassing as everyone could see me and so I kept waving back at them. The lift did 10 rounds. Ultimately the police had to come and help me out.
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I would love it if a passerby went past a building I have designed and mentioned to his companion, "This design is fabulous, do you know the architect of this building is also a popular actress?"
Who means the world to you?
My mother, I am what I am today because of her.
You also dance, don't you?
Everyone dances. If you mean whether I am a professional dancer, yes I am a trained dancer and have been practicing Kathak since 1988.
What is your routine like, how do you balance being a lecturer, an actress and a dancer?
I maintain a very simple routine- Mondays to Thursdays I teach and do not take on any shooting offers. Fridays and Saturdays I go for shoots and Sundays I completely relax. As far as dancing is concerned, it is my passion and I can practice whenever I want.
Your idea of chilling out...
I love going out with my family for a bowl of soup or ice cream. I also love hanging out with my friends.
What is your favourite party wear?
Well believe it or not though I may be well-dressed for a party, but invariably I end up there with my big bulky university bag!
Is there anything that you do almost like a ritual everyday?
Reading before going to sleep. Even if all the lights are turned out I will go to the bathroom and read for two minutes and then sleep.
Any plans of marriage?
Not yet...I am lucky that my parents are considerate and have never rushed me on this subject.
