LDP showdown in Ctg Monday

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), the newly formed party comprising the BNP renegades, will organise a public meeting at Chandanaish on Monday as a part of holding a huge showdown in Chittagong.LDP Executive President Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad is scheduled to address the meeting as the chief guest at Chandanaish Gachhbaria College, said a press release. LDP central leaders will attend the meeting where a good number of BNP renegades from different upazilas of south Chittagong district and Cox's Bazar led by former lawmaker Salahuddin Mahmud are expected to join the party formally, sources said. LDP will also organise another rally at Patiya on Tuesday and a reception ceremony in the city on Wednesday. A good number of leaders and activists of different political organisations from all the 41 wards under the metropolis are expected to join the party at the ceremony. LDP city unit will hold a preparatory meeting at its temporary office in the city today to make the reception a success. It will also organise a public meeting at Rangamati on Thursday. Meanwhile, BNP is also preparing to hold a rally to counter LDP at Chandanaish the same day. Upazila BNP held a meeting in the city on Wednesday night in this connection. At the meeting at the city residence of Chittagong (south) district BNP President Ahmed Khalil Khan, the leaders called upon all the party men and supporters to attend the rally. They also emphasised on bringing all the immediate past BNP ministers, advisers and lawmakers from Chittagong city and Chittagong north district units alongside those from Chittagong south district BNP to the rally, said the sources.
